Google expects a headwind from the Trump administration's plan to close a loophole that previously waived tariffs on shipments coming into the country valued at less than $800, an executive said in a call with analysts on Thursday.
The change to what is known as the de minimis exception will create a "slight headwind" for Google's $31 billion ad business in 2025, primarily from retailers based in the Asia-Pacific region, said Philipp Schindler, Google's chief business officer. He declined to speculate further on the effects of tariffs.
"We're obviously not immune to the macro environment," Schindler said. He said it was "too early to comment" on any effects on ad spending so far.
