LG Electronics (KRX:066570) signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea Electric Power (KRX:015760) and Hanwha Corporation's (KRX:000880) Hanwha Construction to establish a DC-based, power-saving data center.
The project aims to supply 1 megawatt of the 10 megawatts needed for servers and cooling with direct current, improving energy efficiency amid the increasing demand for AI data centers. LG will develop the DC-type super-large chiller to cut 10% energy loss during power conversion, LG Electronics said Friday.
KEPCO will oversee a stable DC power supply and verification, while Hanwha will design and construct the center.
Shares of Korea Electric Power rose nearly 1% in morning trade Monday.
