Market Chatter: Apple, Dell Supplier Pegatron Warns Trump Tariffs Could Cause US Shortages

Apple (AAPL) and Dell (DELL) supplier Pegatron said that President Donald Trump's tariffs are causing confusion among US buyers and could lead to consumer electronics shortages within two months, Reuters reported Monday, citing Pegatron Chairman T.H. Tung.

Shifting tariff policies have disrupted shipping decisions and may soon leave store shelves empty, the news outlet quoted Tung as saying.

Although Trump recently paused some tariffs on countries like Vietnam and Indonesia, a 10% levy on most imports remains in place, discouraging US importers from boosting shipments, Reuters said.

Tung also said the tariffs have interrupted global supply chain operations, but Pegatron will continue expanding its manufacturing footprint outside China, including in Southeast Asia and Mexico.

He added that decisions on where to locate new factories are made with input from customers rather than by Pegatron alone, the outlet reported.
