收购SpringWorks将成为这家德国医疗保健和科技集团近年来最大的制药交易之一，推动其正在进行的建立癌症治疗业务的努力。2015年，默克同意以170亿美元收购美国实验室设备供应商Sigma-Aldrich。
巴克莱分析师Emily Field表示，该交易可能加速默克的增长，特别是在其抗癌药物Bavencio销售放缓，多发性硬化症治疗药物Mavenclad面临专利到期的情况下。
