日本最高外汇事务官员三村淳表示，读卖新闻一篇有关美国财长贝森特告知日方希望日元走强、美元走弱的报道“百分之百不正确”。三村淳在东京向记者表示，美方没有提及汇率水平。此前日报读卖新闻报道称，贝森特在上周的双边会晤中向日本财务大臣加藤胜信表示，弱势美元、强势日元是可取的。
