Westgold Resources (ASX:WGX) said that a potential expansion of its Higginsville processing plant in Western Australia would boost steady state gold production to between 122,000 ounces and 160,000 ounces per annum from 87,000 ounces per annum currently, according to a Monday Australian bourse filing.

A scoping study was conducted into the potential expansion of the plant's capacity to 2.6 million tonnes per annum from the existing 1.6 million tonnes per annum. The expansion could potentially reduce processing costs.

It is currently conducting "debottlenecking" at the existing plant to lift throughput from the current production rate.

The next phase of a detailed engineering study at the plant will start immediately, with a view to making a financial investment decision on the expansion project during the fiscal year 2026.
