Amkor Technology logged a smaller profit in the first quarter, but topped Wall Street's revenue estimates and guided for a better-than-expected second quarter.

The semiconductor product packaging and test services provider posted a profit of $21 million, or 9 cents a share, compared with $59 million, or 24 cents a share, in the same quarter a year earlier. The earnings figure was in line with analyst forecasts, according to FactSet.

Revenue slid to $1.32 billion from $1.37 billion a year ago, but still topped analyst projections for $1.28 billion.

Chief Executive Giel Rutten said the company is closely watching the evolving tariff war and assessing potential impacts on the supply chains of its customers.

Amkor is looking to record $1.37 billion to $1.48 billion in revenue for the current quarter. That's above estimates for $1.33 billion, according to FactSet. Earnings are expected to come in at 7 cents to 23 cents a share.
