Hokkaido Electric Power (TYO:9509) said its network unit received a report request from Japan's Electricity and Gas Market Surveillance Commission after an employee was found holding documents on transmission system plans, according to a Monday filing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The company said the documents, created by its subsidiary Hokkaido Electric Power Network years ago, contained non-public information barred from use by related businesses under the Electricity Business Act.

Hokkaido Electric said it is investigating the breach and will respond to the regulator while working on measures to prevent a recurrence.
