France Has Little Hope of Gaining Economic Impetus This Year -- Market Talk

0619 GMT - Tariff uncertainty will keep the lid on any major rebound in France's economy, Pantheon Macroeconomics' Claus Vistesen writes in a note. The eurozone's second-largest economy grew 0.1% in the three months through March, reversing a contraction at the end of last year but offering little sign of robust momentum. With domestic demand weak and Washington's trade tariffs creating damaging uncertainty, France's economy is set to maintain that hobbled pace in the second quarter before flatlining for the rest of the year, according to Pantheon's estimates. Still, a change in tariff policy could change that outlook, for better or for worse, Vistesen says.(joshua.kirby@wsj.com; @joshualeokirby)
