0602 GMT - Banco Santander's underlying trends for the first quarter are in line with consensus expectations, RBC Capital Markets says after the Spanish bank's results. Its performance in Spain and the U.S. led the lender to beat estimates, offsetting misses at the corporate centre and in its U.K. business, analysts Benjamin Toms and Pablo de la Torre Cuevas write in a note. "The focus on today's call will likely be recent news flow around business unit disposals and the impact of global trade wars," they note. The group's corporate and investment banking division has a good mix of high growth and profitability with good relative cost control, though its foray into the U.S. recently seems badly timed, they add.
