The chief financial officer of Citizens Financial Group is leaving at the end of the summer to take the same role at custodial bank State Street.

The bank holding company said Wednesday that John Woods, who also serves as vice chair, will leave in August.

At that time, Woods will join State Street as chief financial officer, succeeding interim Financial Chief Mark Keating, according to a separate statement from the Boston banking and asset-management giant. Keating will stay on as chief financial officer of the bank's investment services unit.

Citizens Financial, of Providence, R.I., has started an internal and external search for a successor.
