MW A tough year for Beyoncé's mom Tina Knowles: Breast cancer and demolishing her hurricane-damaged Texas home

Nearly a year after being diagnosed and undergoing surgery, Knowles revealed that she is now cancer-free.

Tina Knowles has confessed that she has been privately struggling with breast cancer for the past year-just one month after it was revealed that her Galveston, Texas, beach house was being demolished.

The mother of Beyoncé, 43, and Solange, 38, opened up about her difficult year as she warned women to get their annual mammograms in a wide-ranging interview with People magazine.

Knowles admitted that she was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer in her left breast in July. She wasn't sure whether to go public with her diagnosis, and ultimately decided to let the world in on her health ordeal to help other women.

She revealed that she had missed her scheduled mammogram and "shudders" at the thought of what could have happened to her.

"As women, sometimes we get so busy and we get so wrapped up and running around, but you must go get your test. Because if I had not gotten my test early, I mean, I shudder to think what could have happened to me," she noted.

Beyoncé "took [the news] well, staying positive, and I could already feel her mind racing, focusing on this as a task to tackle with precision," she said.

Meanwhile, Solange said, "Mom, we are going to take care of this."

Knowles added that her bonus daughters, Kelly Rowland, and her niece Angie Beyince, also helped support her, with all of them becoming a "team."

Nearly a year after being diagnosed and undergoing surgery to remove the tumor, Knowles revealed that she is now cancer-free.

"I'm doing great. Cancer-free and incredibly blessed that God allowed me to find it early," she added.

Following her difficult year, Knowles said she is doing better than ever and is healthier than she has been in a very long time.

"I'm healthier, eating better, I lost weight. I want to give people hope. What scares me now is not making the best of every day that I have left in this life," she added.

Knowles is set to publish her memoir, "Matriarch," next year. It will follow her journey from childhood to becoming a "cultural icon, businesswoman, fashion designer, and philanthropist."

Her candid confession comes one month after it was announced that her Galveston beach house was being demolished. In January, the storm-damaged property was foreclosed on and taken over by a lender.

The property initially sustained damage from Hurricane Ike, then further deteriorated with each storm that passed through the coastal area.

In recent years, the home was the subject of numerous code violations.

Last year-around the same time Knowles received her breast cancer diagnosis-the city notified the owner that it would seek demolition unless the issues were resolved by April 30.

After taking ownership of the property in January, city officials began working to secure proper permits to demolish the home.

The demolition began taking place in March and was set to be completed in just one week. In March, it was revealed that no city dollars were required for the destruction.

It is unclear where Knowles is currently residing.
