Woolworths sales growth picks up in Q3 but Big W is a massive worry

Woolworths cut prices for shoppers, helping the nation’s biggest grocery retailer beat market expectations for quarterly sales growth as it battles to protect its share from a resurgent Coles.

However, disappointing clothing sales at Big W took the gloss off an otherwise upbeat trading report, with second-half losses for the discount chain now tipped to nearly double the company’s initial estimate.
