Japanese shares opened higher on Friday, tracking Wall Street gains after strong big tech earnings lifted investor sentiment.
The Nikkei 225 opened at 36,636, up from the previous close of 36,452.30.
US stocks opened May with strong gains as upbeat results from Meta and Microsoft lifted the Nasdaq by 1.5%.
The S&P 500 rose for an eighth straight session, its longest winning streak since August.
Apple and Amazon are set to report after the bell, with Nvidia due on May 28. The Dow rose 0.21%, the S&P 500 gained 0.63%, and the Nasdaq jumped 1.52%.
