Southern Co. recorded a higher profit and revenue in the first quarter.
The energy company on Thursday posted a profit of $1.33 billion, or $1.21 a share, in the quarter ended in March, compared with $1.13 billion, or $1.03 a share, a year earlier.
Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted per-share earnings were $1.23, ahead of the $1.20 forecast by analysts, according to FactSet.
Revenue rose 17% to $7.78 billion. Analysts surveyed by FactSet forecast revenue of $7.15 billion.
The Atlanta utilities distributor logged higher revenue for retail and wholesale electric.
