Spotify Technology (SPOT) said Friday that Apple (AAPL) has approved its US app update, allowing it to show pricing information and to provide links to purchase subscriptions directly through the app, and use a variety of payment options other than Apple's system.
The updated version of the music streaming platform follows a federal judge's order on Thursday for Apple to stop violating a 2021 injunction requiring it to open the App Store to rivals on antitrust grounds, according to media reports.
"This means that Apple will now have to stop restricting developers' ability to communicate with their customers free of charge," Spotify said. "The fact that we haven't been able to deliver these basic services, which were permitted by the judge's order four years ago, is absurd," Spotify said Thursday.
Apple did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
Apple shares were more than 3% lower in premarket trading Friday.
