Broad Market Indicators
Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV rose. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 1.7%.
US equity indexes advanced after midday Thursday following strong earnings by Microsoft and Meta Platforms, along with speculation on easing trade tensions between China and the US.
Energy
IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) were little changed.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) gained 2.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was up 2.3%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) added 1.7%.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 0.9%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), fell 0.6%.
Commodities
Crude oil rose 0.1%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 0.5%. Natural gas added 2.8%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose 2.4%.
Gold declined 2.9% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 2.4%. Silver edged down 1.1%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) dropped 1.1%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 0.6%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 0.9%; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) gained 0.9%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) gained 0.7%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) dropped 2.2%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) fell. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) declined 1%.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) rose 0.9%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) climbed.
