Market Chatter: Alphabet's Google Facing Government Demand to Break Up Ad-Tech Business

Alphabet's (GOOGL, GOOG) Google is facing a demand from the US Department of Justice to divest its ad technology business, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing a court filing.

The DOJ said in a court filing late Monday that the proposed remedies are necessary to end Google's monopolies and restore competition in the ad-exchange and publisher ad-server markets, Reuters reported.

The regulator has proposed selling Google's AdX advertising marketplace and ad server DFP after a federal court ruled last month that the company held an illegal monopoly in online search, with the trial scheduled for September, the report said.

Google and the Justice Department did not immediately respond to MTNewswires' requests for comment.
