当地时间5月8日，比尔·盖茨发文宣布，未来20年，将通过盖茨基金会捐出其几乎全部的财富，用来挽救和改善世界各地的生命。到2045年12月31日，盖茨基金会将永久性关闭。

“下周，我将参加盖茨基金会的年度员工大会，这是我一年中最喜欢的日子之一。虽然离开微软很多年了，但我骨子里仍然是一位CEO，并且做任何财务决策时都会充分考虑其影响。我满怀信心地将我剩余的财富投入盖茨基金会，因为我知道负责管理和使用这些钱的人是多么的杰出和敬业——我迫不及待地想要为他们喝彩。”比尔·盖茨写道。

据盖茨基金会介绍，比尔·盖茨目前财富净值为1080亿美元。
