Lumen Technologies (LUMN) and IBM (IBM) said Tuesday they are collaborating to help businesses cut costs and risks related to public cloud dependence by enabling real-time artificial intelligence processing.

By integrating watsonx, IBM's portfolio of AI products, with Lumen's Edge Cloud infrastructure and network, the companies said they aim to bring real-time AI inferencing to where data is generated to help firms overcome latency.

IBM Consulting will serve as the preferred systems integrator to support clients' efforts to scale deployments, lower costs and fully leverage AI capabilities, according to the statement.
