Altech Batteries (ASX:ATC) reported a 50% capacity performance improvement in battery applications via the optimization of silicon content to a 5% addition after developing a technology where spherical, alumina-coated silicon particles can be effectively distributed within the voids of graphite, helping to minimize long-term damage to the electrode layer caused by expansion, according to a Tuesday Australian bourse filing.
It constructed a pilot plant adjacent to its proposed project site in Germany to enable the qualification process for its Silumina anode product.
The pilot plant is operational and has produced high-quality coated silicon particles, which are ready for evaluation and testing by potential customers.
Its shares rose 3% in recent trading.
