Disney Princess, 'Wicked' Provide Boost to Mattel's Doll Sales -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
May 06, 2025

1747 ET - Mattel says its dolls unit posted a 1% increase in gross billings, which measures sales to retailers before adjustments, during the latest quarter. The uptick was driven by increased demand for Disney Princess, as well as the success of "Wicked" and tie-in toys. Demand for Barbie and American Girl dolls was stable from a year earlier, CFO Anthony DiSilvestro says. President Trump last week put the dolls in the spotlight, suggesting that children could make do with fewer. "Maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, you know, and maybe the two dolls will cost a couple of bucks more than they would normally," he said. Shares fall 1.2% after hours.
