Contact Energy (ASX:CEN, NZE:CEN) secured a contract with Canada-based Methanex to purchase roughly 2.8 petajoules of gas for eight weeks, according to a Wednesday filing with the Australian bourse.
The additional fuel supply will enable the company to operate its Taranaki Combined Cycle gas-fired power station alongside the gas peaking units at Stratford through winter, as required, the filing said.
Contact Energy shares slid 2% in afternoon New Zealand trade, and rose nearly 1% in morning Australia trade.
