United Airlines Holdings (UAL) said Tuesday it invested in Twelve, a low-carbon fuel company developing sustainable aviation fuel from carbon dioxide and water using renewable energy.

The company said the investment was made through United Airlines Ventures Sustainable Flight Fund and follows Twelve's recent $83 million Series C funding and project financing for its first production site in Washington state.

The site is expected to start operations this year, with a planned annual output of 50,000 gallons of SAF, United said.
