Sector Update: Energy Stocks Advance Premarket Tuesday

Energy stocks advanced premarket Tuesday as the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) was 0.8% higher recently.

The United States Oil Fund (USO) was up 4% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 0.2% higher.

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil was up 2.9% at $58.78 per barrel at the New York Mercantile Exchange. Global benchmark North Sea Brent crude oil gained 2.7% to $61.87 per barrel, and natural gas futures were 0.7% higher at $3.57 per 1 million British Thermal Units.

Talos Energy (TALO) shares rose past 9% after the company reported a swing to Q1 adjusted earnings as revenue increased during the period.

MPLX (MPLX) shares were up 0.7% after the company reported higher Q1 earnings and revenue.

Marathon Petroleum (MPC) shares were over 1% higher even after the company reported that it swung to a Q1 loss as revenue fell during the period.
