Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Fall After Midday

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV declined. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.9%.

US equity indexes fell with most government bond yields, while crude oil futures surged after midday Tuesday.

Energy

IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) were each up slightly.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.8%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was down 0.7% and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) dropped 0.8%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was down 1.9%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) dipped 1.2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 0.7%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 0.8%.

Commodities

Crude oil was 3.8% higher, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 3.7%. Natural gas shed 1.1%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 2.8%.

Gold advanced 2.8% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was up 2.4%. Silver edged up 2.7%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) climbed 2.3%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down marginally; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were in the red.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) slipped 0.8%; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) slid 0.2%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) dipped 0.7%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) lost 2.4%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also moved lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 5.2%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) lost 0.9%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) was down 0.6% and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) retreated 0.7%.
