据央视新闻，5日，美国微软公司旗下即时通信软件Skype，正式停止运营，其核心功能，将被迁移至微软主推的另一款通信软件。Skype这款曾经占据行业主导地位的互联网语音和视频通话软件正式画上句号，结束其20多年的运营历史。

据中国基金报，Skype的关闭距离微软以85亿美元现金收购该服务已过去14年。这笔交易当时是微软历史上最大的一次收购。微软随后将Skype集成到Office以及其失败的移动操作系统Windows Phone中。

尽管在疫情期间，视频通话需求激增带动了Zoom、Google Meet和Cisco WebEx等竞争产品的增长，但Skype的受欢迎程度近年来却持续下滑。在过去十几年里，它也面临着来自Apple FaceTime和Meta旗下WhatsApp等应用的激烈竞争。此外，微软近年来在Teams业务上投入了大量资源，而该平台几乎提供了与Skype相同的服务。

Skype于2003年在爱沙尼亚推出，并迅速流行，成为用户免费拨打全球电话的热门工具。在国际通话仍然昂贵的时代，这一优势尤为突出。其迅猛发展吸引了eBay，其于2005年以26亿美元收购Skype。然而，这一合作并未取得成功，eBay在2009年以19亿美元的价格将其65%的股份出售给了一个投资者集团。最终，微软于2011年收购了Skype。

微软曾表示，2016年Skype的月活跃用户超过3亿户，但截至2023年，其日活跃用户已缩减至3600万户。
