China said it will take action to "push back infiltration and sabotage activities from overseas" after the Central Intelligence Agency released videos recruiting Chinese officials to leak information to the US, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said in a press conference on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Lin Jian said the videos, which were released on social media, violate international law and are a "serious infringement on China's national interest and pure political provocation".

The CIA started recruiting new informants from China, Iran and North Korea as part of a drive launched in October 2024, posting instructions online on how to reach out to the agency, Reuters reported on the same day.

The Chinese state security ministry recently announced the arrest of a government employee stealing state secrets to a foreign intelligence agency, the report said.
