Business turnover across 13 Australian industries rose 0.4% in seasonally adjusted terms in March, data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed Friday.
Wholesale trade led growth, with business turnover in the industry up 2.2%. This was followed by a 2% increase in arts and recreation services and a 1.8% rise in information media and telecommunications.
In contrast, the biggest decline was seen in electricity, gas, water, and waste services, with business turnover down 4.1%. Transport, postal, and warehousing followed with a 3.9% drop. Both industries experienced disruptions due to adverse weather conditions across Queensland, New South Wales, and Western Australia, according to Robert Ewing, the bureau's head of business statistics.
Compared with the year-ago period, business turnover was up 4.6% in March.
