Carvana Sees Arguments For and Against Used Cars Under Tariffs -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

1218 ET - Carvana CEO Ernie Garcia thinks an argument can be made for and against the company in a higher tariff world. Analysts have largely said higher prices for new vehicles by way of tariffs may lead to higher interest in used cars. "To the extent new car prices go up, I think generally that would pull up used car prices but less. I think that would likely drive a substitution into used," said Garcia in an interview with CNBC's "Squawk Box. "Reasonable arguments could be made for us that it's a positive, I think reasonable arguments could be made that car prices go up and that's a negative." (denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
