Consolidated Water (CWCO) said Tuesday that its Kalaeloa Desalco unit has received approval from the Honolulu Board of Water Supply for its pilot test reports and recommendations for a $204 million desalination plant project in Hawaii.
The multi-year project started in June 2023 and covers the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of a 1.7-million-gallon-per-day seawater desalination plant, said Consolidated Water.
The project has a two-year development phase and two subsequent years of construction, after which the company will operate and maintain the facility for 20 years, with two five-year extension options, Consolidated Water added.
The company said the approval from the Honolulu Board of Water Supply is a step towards starting construction, once all permits are secured.
Shares of Consolidated Water were up 7% in recent trading.
