Airline Earnings Recession Appears to Continue Through 2Q -- Market Talk

1035 ET - Several indicators support the view that the U.S. airline industry is in the midst of an earnings recession, Deutsche analysts say in a research note. The analysts estimate system passenger volumes and average fares are trending lower, resulting in lower top lines. Demand appears to be down the most in domestic markets among price-sensitive customers, they say. International travel is still strong, though some conflicts abroad are denting certain markets: demand to travel to India has been in a free fall amid regional hostilities and Delta and United extended the suspension of their services to Israel, the analysts note.
