American Eagle's Preliminary 1Q Could Be a Warning for Retailers -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
14 May

1723 ET - American Eagle scraps its full-year outlook as its preliminary 1Q report disappoints investors, sending shares tumbling 16% in post-market trading. The disclosure comes ahead of when most retailers are scheduled to report earnings, including apparel rivals Abercrombie & Fitch and Gap, scheduled to report May 28 and 29, respectively. Investors will be anxious to see whether American Eagle's warning is unique to the company, or if it will serve as an alarm ahead of other retailers. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
