BlockBeats News, May 15th, according to Decrypt's report, ride-hailing service platform Lyft has confirmed that it is using the decentralized mapping platform Bee Maps, based on the Solana blockchain, for its street-level map data. The collaboration began in 2024 and aims to support Lyft's navigation and autonomous driving plans.

Bee Maps is built on top of the infrastructure of the decentralized mapping network Hivemapper, operating through a cryptocurrency incentive mechanism. Global contributors can upload street-level images through AI-driven dashcams and receive native token HONEY as a reward.

Bee Maps co-founder and CEO Ariel Seidman stated that traditional maps cannot keep up with real-world changes, and achieving mobility services and autonomous driving requires a crowdsourced, real-time, accurate, and open mapping system. It is reported that this collaboration is limited to map data licensing and does not involve Lyft drivers or vehicles contributing data to the platform.
