Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company, subsidiaries of PPL Corporation, are making significant investments in system enhancements to improve customer service and energy reliability. The utilities serve over 1.3 million customers across Kentucky and Virginia and are known for their outstanding customer service. Recent efforts include upgrading aging equipment to better withstand extreme weather, as Kentucky has experienced more severe storms in recent years. Advanced meter technology is being implemented to allow customers real-time access to their energy usage, helping them manage bills more effectively. Additionally, improvements in IT systems and customer billing processes are underway. To support these enhancements, LG&E and KU plan to request revenue adjustments from the Kentucky Public Service Commission, marking their first request for base rate increases since 2020. Despite rising costs, they have maintained residential rates significantly below the national average.
