1221 ET - Walmart appears well-prepared to handle the swirl of shifting tariffs between the U.S. and its trading partners, as it sports 33% exposure to imports from countries including China, Mexico, Vietnam, India and Canada, TD Cowen analysts say in a research note. The company's broad and replenishable assortment of products should allow it to efficiently flow inventory in without having to make big one-time changes to volumes, the analysts say. Management is also prioritizing competitive food prices and making sure that tariff pressures on general merchandise don't weigh on its grocery business, the analysts say. Other key strategies for the retailer include controlling food waste, moving manufacturing production where possible and having suppliers shift materials inputs, they say. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
