Automakers to Raise Prices by End of June, Toyota COO Says -- Market Talk

1758 ET - Most automakers will have to start raising prices due to added tariff-related costs by the end of June, Toyota Motor Operations Chief Mark Templin says during an appearance on CNBC. The Trump administration's 25% tariffs on foreign-made autos are unsustainable for any automaker, no matter how high their margins are, so every player in the industry will have to raise prices eventually, Templin says. He is not concerned about demand for Toyota's cars, though, as dealers are selling through inventory faster than the company can make, even as the company boosts production this year, he says. "We're absolutely in a different place than the rest of the industry," he says. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
