IES Holdings has designated its president and chief operating officer, Matthew Simmes, to succeed Jeffrey Gendell as chief executive, effective July 1.

The company said Monday that Gendell, who has been chairman of the Houston designer of integrated electrical and technology systems since 2016 and CEO since 2020, will become executive chairman on that date.

IES said Simmes, who has spent more than three decades with the company, will continue in his role as president and will join the board.
