KBR (KBR) said Thursday it has signed a letter of intent with ACMI Properties to expand commercial space capabilities in a project that includes a spaceflight food laboratory at NASA's Exploration Park, adjacent to Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The 45,000 square-foot facility is meant to serve the commercial low-Earth orbit industry by designing, testing, and producing astronaut food for space missions, the company said.

In addition to supporting human spaceflight programs, the facility will aim to come up with food safety, packaging, and lifecycle solutions in extreme environments, the company said.
