Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Drop After Midday Friday

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV declined. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.9%.

US equity indexes fell as President Donald Trump's warning to impose tariffs on the European Union and Apple (AAPL) undermined risk sentiment.

Energy

IShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) were little changed.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) slipped 1.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also declined.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) dropped 2.2%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) lost 2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) declined 1.1%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), rose 1.2%.

Commodities

Crude oil added 0.3%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) gained nearly 1%. Natural gas was up 1.8%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose fractionally.

Gold was 2% higher on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 2.2%. Silver rose past 1%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was up 1.2%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 0.8%; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) fell 1%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was also down 1%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.6%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also moved lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 0.6%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) fell 0.3%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were also in the red.
