KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures opened higher on Friday, and were on track for a weekly gain, supported by stronger soyoil prices, though weaker Dalian palm olein and crude oil limited the gains.
The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for August delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange gained 22 ringgit, or 0.58%, to 3,842 ringgit ($903.57) a metric ton in early trade. The contract has gained 1.13% so far this week.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYcv1 rose 0.13%, while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 shed 0.3%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOcv1 rose 1%.
* Palm oil tracks price movements of rival edible oils as it competes for a share of the global vegetable oils market.
* Oil prices slipped, weighed down by a stronger U.S. dollar and the possibility that OPEC+ will further increase its crude oil output. O/R
* Weaker crude oil futures make palm a less attractive option for biodiesel feedstock.
* The ringgit MYR=, palm's currency of trade, strengthened 0.42% against the dollar, making the commodity more expensive for buyers holding foreign currencies.
* Palm oil may test resistance of 3,883 ringgit per metric ton, a break above which could open the way toward 3,927 ringgit, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said. TECH/C
MARKET NEWS
* Asian shares made some tentative gains on Friday as beaten-down Treasuries found buyers after U.S. President Donald Trump's tax bill narrowly passed the lower house, although debt worries still lingered. MKTS/GLOB
