美国财政部长斯科特·贝森特表示，特朗普政府暂停了创建主权财富基金的计划，因为总统把偿付国家债务作为首要任务。

　　“我认为总统已经决定暂停这项计划，以便我们继续处理目前正在做的其他事情，”贝森特周五表示，“他前几天说我们可能会花更多时间偿债。他正专注于偿债。”

　　对于外界担忧共和党税改法案会推升债务上限，导致美国债务占国内生产总值（GDP）的比重指标恶化，贝森特予以反驳。

　　他表示，“这项法案将促进增长”，进而降低债务比率。“我并不担心美国的债务动态，因为增长轨迹的改变会在很大程度上解决这些问题，”他表示，并预计到明年这个时候，美国GDP增速将超过3%。
