BlockBeats News, May 25th, the New York Police Department arrested 37-year-old cryptocurrency investor John Woeltz and a 24-year-old female accomplice in downtown Manhattan, Manhattan, on charges of kidnapping and torturing an Italian tourist. According to New York Post, Woeltz allegedly held the victim captive in a luxury SoHo apartment for over two weeks, attempting to violently gain access to his financial accounts, involving an amount of money reaching several million U.S. dollars. The police found Polaroid photos documenting the abuse at the scene, including a photo of the victim being held at gunpoint. The victim was lured to the apartment on May 6th under the guise of a business transaction, then kidnapped and tortured, and stated that Woeltz planned to kill him upon escape.
Woeltz was previously involved in early Bitcoin investments, with his GitHub account being inactive since 2020. Woeltz faces charges of second-degree assault, kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, and illegal possession of a firearm, while the female accomplice faces charges of kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment.
