Green360 Technologies (ASX:GT3) developed a red mud-kaolin low-carbon cement, through a proprietary material transformation process, according to a Thursday Australian bourse filing.
Red mud is an industrial byproduct produced during the extraction of alumina from bauxite ore. Around 1 tonne to 1.5 tonnes of red mud is produced for every tonne of alumina produced.
Laboratory testing confirmed that after red mud-kaolin is subjected to the proprietary process, the total chromium levels dropped by over 95%, and both uranium and thorium were fully immobilized, meeting inert waste and drinking water standards.
The firm set to begin commercial-scale validation of its proprietary low-carbon cement blends incorporating red mud and kaolin, working with its joint venture partner PERMAcast.
Its shares rose 5% on market close on Thursday.
