The Australian sharemarket operator – backed by investment banks, stockbrokers and lawyers – have called on the corporate regulator to focus on making it easier for companies to go public rather than tightening rules around fast-growing private markets.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission received almost 90 industry submissions after releasing its discussion paper on the rise of private markets in February that was prompted by a decline in sharemarket listings, and the relentless migration of capital to more opaque private markets.
