China May See EV Demand Return Later This Year -- Market Talk

0518 GMT - China's electric-vehicle market may witness a demand comeback, thanks to upgraded models, new launches and recent promotions, say Nomura analysts in a note. EV shipments data was unexciting for May, they say, but note that the first half is typically not a strong season for auto sales. Consumers remain in a wait-and-watch model, awaiting new models or facelifts and fresh promotions, they add. With some eye-catching new models set to be unveiled and start delivery in the next two months, the market will see a demand recovery, they add. BYD remains the brokerage's top pick given its business scale and price setting ability within the mass market. (jiahui.huang@wsj.com; @ivy_jiahuihuang)
