1355 ET - Ollie's Bargain Outlet's 1Q results were better-than-expected, an impressive feat given unseasonable weather throughout the quarter, Loop Capital's Anthony Chukumba says in a research note. The discount retailer saw sales and comps rise due to higher transactions, all while unseasonable weather conditions were about a 150 basis point comp headwind, says the analyst. "We are becoming increasingly confident Ollie's will be able to continue to 'comp the comp' against difficult multi-year stacked comparisons, especially given the rash of large retail chain bankruptcies over the past few years," says Chukumba. Ollie's edges down 2% to $109.67, possibly on its maintained guidance while competitor Dollar General raised its forecast. (denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
