Saia shares declined Thursday after the freight company said that the number of its less-than-truckload shipments declined in the past two months.
The stock was down 4.7% at $252.71 in Thursday trading. Shares are down 45% this year.
Saia said before the market open that shipments per workday declined 1.9% in April and 3.2% in May, according to data gathered for the first two months of the current quarter.
Less-than-truckload refers to shipments that don't require a full truck.
Shipped tonnage was up 4.4% per workday and weight per shipment rose by 6.5% in April. Tonnage per workday ticked down 0.4%, while weight per shipment rose 3.2%.
The company noted that the actual metrics may differ from the data when Saia reports quarterly results.
