UnitedHealth Seen on Longer Road to Recovery -- Market Talk

1401 ET [Dow Jones]--UnitedHealth Group's path to mitigate impacts from a phase-in of Medicare's V28 risk adjuster model looks more difficult than previously expected, Baird analysts say in a note. The analysts say they increasingly believe United Health's OptumHealth offering is much more aggressive in Medicare Advantage risk adjustment than the rest of the industry, which raises questions around how long its recovery will take, and at what cost to its membership. Over time, the company will likely be able to navigate such headwinds and possibly see some recovery in OptumHealth's results, but the situation may get worse with the final phase-in of V28 before it gets better, they say. The analysts downgrade the stock to neutral. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
