2347 GMT - Japanese stocks may rise amid signs of progress in U.S.-China trade talks. The negotiations have been "productive," U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said as he headed back to the U.S. for planned testimony to Congress on Wednesday. He said Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer would continue negotiating with the Chinese delegation. Nikkei futures are up 0.5% at 38365 on the SGX. USD/JPY is at 144.82, compared with 144.89 in late New York trading Tuesday. The Nikkei Stock Average closed 0.3% higher at 38211.51 on Tuesday. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
